Mt. Bonnell Clean-Up
Join CTM and Keep Austin Beautiful to help clean up Mt. Bonnell. We'll be rappelling
down the side of the mountain to clean up bottles, cans, and other trash to help keep one of Austin's
favorite parks beautiful. So, if you are a climber and have experience rappelling, we need
your skills!
Please bring:
- Climbing harness and belay device,
- plus a spare carabiner to clip a trash bag.
- Long sleeve shirt, long pants, and work gloves.
We'll set-up the ropes and provide water and snacks for all volunteers.
Contact Gary at reimerclimber@gmail.com
to volunteer.
This was a very successful event last year. With over a dozen climbers and more than a dozen
non-climbers pitching in to pick up trash, Mt. Bonnell is now in much better shape than when we found it.
We cleaned up all visible trash along the mountain top itself, which is what the City of Austin's Parks
and Recreation Department was most concerned with. With that taken care of, a number of volunteers
decended down into the woods at the base of the cliff to clean up some of the more visible litter there,
as well.
We also received a lot of press coverage from three local television stations, so our efforts were
very visible and well-advertised.
There's still a lot to do at the base of the mountain, so hopefully we'll get an even bigger turnout this year.
Thanks, y'all!
